North London Nationals 2019/2020 Major Novice MD1 Season
Welcome to the 2019/2020 Major Novice MD1 season, my name is Dan Phillips and I will be the head coach of this team.

I am very excited for the opportunity to continue coaching within the North London Nationals organization.  Last season my MD3 team finished extremely strong and I am looking to build on that success this season.  I am committed to growing these kids love for the game of hockey in a fun and positive environment while focusing on skill development.

This is a competitive hockey team, it is expected that all players/parents are committed to our games, practices, tournaments, events and off ice training sessions as the priority.

Hockey Canada introduced a new program last year in Novice hockey which included half ice games with 4v4 game play.  This season the program will continue half ice with a transition into full ice and 5v5 game play come January.

The Major Novice MD1 tryout process will consist of 3 skates for all players registered.  After these 3 skates the players selected to the MD1 team will be posted to the team website, the remaining players will report to a Tier 2 tryout on a fourth ice time with a coach to be named at that time.  MD1 tryouts start on September 10th @ 5-6 pm, followed by September 12th @ 5-6 pm and September 14th 12-1 pm all at Carling arena.  Please check the website calendar to make sure no changes have occurred.

All players selected to the MD1 team will be subject to a "bump up" fee above registration costs.  A budget amount will also be charged towards the team budget to cover team expenses over our season.  The budget has yet to be completed or approved.  The MD1 team will look at options for fundraising to help reduce the rising costs of competitive hockey.

The MD1 team will compete in 4 tournaments over the course of our season, 2 home and 2 away as well as the Alliance Championships in April.  They are as follows:

Nov. 29 - Dec. 1  Bandits Dan Pulham
Dec. 27 - Dec. 29  Wayne Gretzky Brantford
Jan. 17 - Jan. 19  West London Hawks
Mar. 20 - Mar. 22  St Catherines Warriors
Apr. 10 - Apr. 12  Alliance

Please visit the North London Nationals homepage, there you will find the Rowan's Law acknowledgement forms.  These forms will outline the concussion protocol and must be read and signed by both players and parents. Any participant who has failed to do so will not be allowed to skate until such time. Please act accordingly.

I am eager to get started and look forward to a great season of hockey.

Good luck to everyone trying out, see you at the rink!
