Injury & Illness Prevention Guidelines

2018/2019 MINOR NOVICE MD TEAM

Injury & Illness Prevention

1) ALWAYS bring your own water bottle to games and practices.

Stay hydrated by drinking water before, during and after games and practices, but only use your own water bottle to prevent spreading colds and flus.  Never share a water bottle or spray others with your water bottle.

2) ALWAYS play with every piece of hockey equipment.
Ensure equipment is not broken or incorrectly fitted.  Tell your parents or coaches right away if something is broken, missing or doesn’t feel right.  After every practice or game, lay out your equipment to dry and wash all gear regularly.

3) ALWAYS keep your head up and look around.
Be aware of other players around you and always know where the puck is.  NEVER crash into the boards or into other players on purpose.

4) NEVER hit, push or shove another player from behind or to their head.
You can severely injure another player and this type of behavior will not be tolerated.

5) ALWAYS keep your hockey stick blade below your waist.
You must always have control of your stick and your stick must NEVER be used to hit or trip another player, either accidentally or on purpose.
