Tryout Tips
Hello, As we eagerly await tryouts I would like to offer some insight as to what myself and those doing the tryout evaluations will be looking for when selecting the team for this upcoming season.
There are some obvious talents and skills that will be a requirement for playing Minor Peewee at the MD level such as skating and puck handling. I assume most players trying out will possess these skills.
Myself and the tryout evaluation team will also be looking for the intangible's such as:
Effort and Intensity - regardless of the situation, drill, stage of the tryout or game. Your best effort and attention is always expected!
Body Language - How do you react after a mistake, coaches decision, goal against, or a teammate mistake? We are looking for players that don't sulk, complain, or blame others. Show that you can adapt and react in a positive way.
Other factors that are important are:
Focus
Listening
Positional Play
Team Work
The evaluation team will not know who was (or was not) on last years team. Clean slate for everyone. Go out and earn it!
Tryout dates should be posted any day now. Please review these tips with your son or daughter and best of luck in the weeks to come. See you at the rink!
