Additional Information - Tryout Process and Season Expectations
Thank you for taking the initial step in being part of the North London Nationals Novice MD 1 team for the coming season. With tryouts starting tomorrow I wanted to share a bit more information to all parents.
Tryouts/Evaluations
Each player is guaranteed two * 50 minute ice sessions. Due to the number of participants there are 2 groups for each of the first two tryout days. Group 1 and group 2.
Sunday evening the first releases will be made. All releases will be done via the "Tryout Player List" tab on the Team website.
For those that are not released, they will be invited to the next session on Tuesday September 12th. Another set of releases will be done that evening.
The final tryout will be held Wednesday September 13th. The final roster will be posted later that evening. I will share timing via this site, and stick to the times promised.
Final Roster Construction will be as follows:
15 x Skaters
2 x Goalies
All players that are released are invited to participate in tryouts for the Novice MD Tier 2 Team. Tryout information is posted on the team page.
Non-parent evaluators and on-ice help have been selected to help with the selection and evaluation of players. Evaluators will be taking notes on each player. Should you require any feedback on the selection process as it relates to your child please contact me directly at the conclusion of the process/after the team is made.
Evaluators will be instructed to look for specific hockey skills; Skating, shooting, effort level, game play skills. On-ice instructors will be looking for players that are engaged, coachable and act in a sportsmanlike fashion at all times.
Please be aware that this is a very difficult time for your child so please prepare them for all outcomes.
Tournaments/Exhibition
We intend on entering 5, tournaments in 2017/18 with the possibility of additional tournaments determined by our success this coming season.

Team Costs
We will have a team budget of approximately $18,000.
Tournaments and extra ice have already been allotted and money is due to cover these costs immediately, so parents will be asked to pay a TBD fee at the MD Parents meeting on September 20th.
There will be opportunities for sponsorships and fundraising to help off set some of these costs. All players and parents are expected to lend their time and efforts to these initiatives. More details to follow.
A more detailed team budget will be provided to the team once the selection process is completed.
Player and Parent/Guardian Expectations
In order for a competitive hockey team to be successful, the full support and commitment of coaches, players and parents/guardians is required. Outlined below are the expectations of the players and parents/guardians during the hockey season.
Player Expectations
Attend every practice and game. If a player is unable to make a practice or game, the Head Coach must be notified. Most tournaments require your child to miss school (usually Friday, )dependent on game times. Arrive to practices no later than 30 minutes in advance and games no later than 45 minutes in advance.
Be respectful to teammates, coaches, other teams, parents, siblings and referees.
Parent/Guardian Expectations
Provide funds and time commitment to allow your child to fully participate on the team.
Reinforce player expectations with your child.
Be positive and supportive of your child to assist in their development and increased confidence during practices and games.
Be respectful of players, coaches, referees, and other parents/guardians. Any disrespect will be dealt with immediately. There is zero tolerance in this area.
Participation in team initiatives. We will require your assistance with team finances, management, fundraising, training, on-ice practices, parent representative, water help, sweater laundry and dressing room attendants.
This is just a quick and brief outline for the coming season. More information will be shared at the Parent Meeting and once the team is selected.
Thanks again for your commitment and I look forward to a terrific tryout process and season!
