Welcome to the 2013 Preston Cup
You need to go to the arena where your first game is being played approximately one hour prior to game time for registration.
The SportsWorld Twin Pad refers to the new arena at Pioneer Sportsworld in Kitchener. ArenaMaps.com does not yet have a map to this facility, but driving instructions have been provided on the tournament web site.
At your first game, tickets will be made available for free beverages and snacks for each participant compliments of Zehrs Markets and their suppliers. These tickets are only redeemable at the hospitality room of the Preston Auditorium.
The hospitality room at the Preston Auditorium features free coffee all weekend. It is here that each player will receive a free hot dog. All tournament trophies and All-Star uniforms will be on display which has proven to be a great motivator to both teams and individual players.
If your child makes the all-star game and you wish to purchase the jersey, we will only accept cash, and not personal cheques like in previous years. Please come prepared, if you wish to purchase this souvenir!
All scores and standings will be available throughout the weekend on our website at www.prestonhockeytournament.com.
PRESTON INTERNATIONAL HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
2013 RULES AND REGULATIONS
Hockey Canada (HC) rules will govern all tournament play.
Players must be approved on Hockey Canada (HC), OMHA, USA Hockey or IIHF recognized playing certificates / approved electronic rosters for the current playing season and they must be able to be produced at any time before or during the tournament.
Teams must report to tournament officials at least thirty minutes before the start of every game. Subject to the Tournament Chairman's discretion, if a team is not ready to play, within five minutes of the scheduled start of a game, then the game shall be a forfeiture with the final score being 3 - 0 and period points will be based on a goal being scored in each period with an additional bonus point being given for a shutout.
All decisions on forfeitures shall be at the total discretion of the Tournament Chairman, without discussion from any team.
Each team must have two sets of sweaters at the designated arena for each of their games. We ask for everyone's co-operation in the determination of sweater colours to be worn by competing teams. In the event of a conflict, Tournament officials will determine sweater colours at their discretion.
All games are to be 10 10 15 stop time. However, when a team is ahead by five (5) or more goals in the third period "straight time" will be utilized. In this situation, straight time will be utilized unless the goal differential gap is reduced to three (3) goals at which time the clock will revert back to stop time. The only time the clock will be stopped during playing time is if an on-ice injury has occurred. However, if ice time permits, the tournament Chairman shall have the discretion of increasing the length of quarter, semi and final games.
The Tournament Chairman or an authorized alternate will handle all protests.
Tie breaking procedures in quarter-final, semi-final and final games will be at the discretion of the Chairman.
Any misconduct penalty, which would result in a suspension under Hockey Canada (HC) rules, will result in the offending player or official being similarly suspended in the tournament.
In the Novice MD/AE, Novice A, Atom AA and Atom AAA Divisions, the Group Winners, utilizing the tie breaking procedure, will advance to their respective Semi-final Games. The third (3rd) and fourth (4th) place teams or "Wild Card" teams will be the non-Group Winner with the highest number of points, utilizing the tie breaking procedure, and will advance to the Semi-final Game as the 3rd and 4th place teams. The opponents in the Semifinal Games, utilizing the tie breaking procedure, will include the first (1st) place team playing the fourth (4th) place team and the second (2nd) place team playing the third (3rd) place team.
In any division, if there is a tie or ties, following divisional or round robin play, utilizing the tie breaking procedure, the position in the standing of the tied teams will be established by the Tournament Chairman or official scorer by a toss of a coin with or without the tied teams being physically present during the coin toss.

TIE BREAKING PROCEDURES
If two or more teams have an equal number of points four (4) for a win; two (2) for a tie with an additional bonus point for a shut out) after round robin or elimination round play, their position in standings will be determined by:
1. The results of the games played between the tied teams in the following order:
a) the "game" points acquired in these games;
b) the combination of "game" points and "period" points acquired in these games; "period" points shall be awarded on the basis of one for each period won; 1/2 for each period tied, during round robin games;
c) subtracting goals scored against from goals scored in these games. Their positions being determined in the order of the greatest surplus.
d) dividing the goals scored in these games by the goals scored against, the positions being determined in order of the greatest quotient.
2. If after applying the formulas of 1 a, b, c or d, the tie still exists, 1 b, c and d shall be applied using all the games played by each team.
Note: These formulas shall be applied in order until one formula breaks the tie between all teams at the same time.
3. If the above procedures do not break the tie, a tie breaking procedure, which is at the total discretion of the Tournament Chairman, shall be used to break the tie.
ALL STAR TEAM SELECTION
Our All Star game has consistently proven to be the most exciting and entertaining event of our tournament. Selection of players for this game shall be at the total discretion of the All-Star Selection Committee (Scouts are present at every game) and the Tournament Chairman. Two All Star teams in Minor Atom (Novice players are eligible) and Atom will be selected comprised of approximately eighteen players (18) each (15 skaters and 3 goalies per team).
