PrintTournament Rules

1. Sign In: Team managers must report to the tournament office (Western Fair Sports Centre) or at the assigned arena 1 hour prior to the start of each game. Prior to the team’s first game, the team manager must present an approved roster and travel permit.
2. Team Roster: Team managers must submit a team roster of not more than 19 players eligible to play in the tournament. Only those players whose names appear on the list will be eligible to compete in the tournament. Teams may dress a maximum of 19 players for a game (2 must be goalies). A maximum of 5 approved team officials may be on the bench during games.
3. Affiliated Players (APs): If a team plans to use APs, an affiliated player list must be submitted at the same time as the team roster.
4. Game Start: Teams must be prepared to play up to 15 minutes prior to scheduled game time. There will be a 3-minute warm up prior to start of the game. Once both teams are on the ice, clock will start for example, at 15:00 and run down to 12:00 at which point the buzzer will sound. Players shake hands prior to the start of the game.
5. Sweaters: MD/AE teams must bring 2 sets of sweaters. The Home Team will wear dark-colored sweaters and the Away Team will wear light-colored sweaters as per Alliance rules.
6. Damage: Teams will be responsible for any damage to the dressing rooms and other arena facilities and this includes banging on the glass or boards while on or off the ice. Report any damage to the tournament officials or arena staff before using an assigned dressing room. It will be the individual team’s responsibility for loss or theft in the dressing rooms. Dressing room keys are available from the arena staff.
7. Body Checking: In MD/AE divisions above and including Minor Bantam body checking will be permitted. Body checking will not be permitted in MD/AE divisions from Novice-Peewee. No body checking with will be permitted in house league divisions.
8. Rules: This tournament is sanctioned by the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario
a) Playing rules and tournament rules are those of the Alliance and OHF minimum suspension list. The tournament committee reserves the right to make the decisions regarding the interpretation of the rules and all decisions will be final. No protests will be allowed.
b) Exceptions
i. Fighting will result in an automatic suspension of the players involved for the balance of the tournament.
ii. Gross misconduct will result in an automatic suspension from the tournament.

9. Equipment: All players must use approved equipment only. Please make sure all helmets are CSA approved and sticker is on helmet except for teams from the USA.

10. Round-Robin Play: Novice to Peewee MD/AE and all House League Round robin games will have three 12 minute stop-time periods with no curfew and no overtime.    Minor Bantam – Midget MD/AE round robin games will have two 12 minute period and one 15 minute periods with no curfew and no overtime.
Games with a 5 goal differential in the 3rd period will have the clock run and will not revert back to stop time regardless of the score—minor penalties will be 3 minutes in length. Ties are permitted. Teams will be awarded 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss.

11. Qualification for Quarter finals, Semi-finals and Finals:

MD/AE

Novice – Top 2 teams in each group advance to the semi-finals

Minor Atom - All teams advance to semi-finals and will be seeded 1 through 4 after the round robin games

Minor Peewee - Top 2 teams advance to the championship game

Minor Bantam - Top 2 teams advance to the championship game

Bantam - Top 2 teams in each group advance to the semi-finals

Minor Midget - All teams advance to the semi-finals and will be seeded 1 through 4 after the round robin games

Midget - Top 4 teams overall advance to the semi-finals

Houseleague

Atom - Top 2 teams in each group advance to the sem-finals

Peewee - All teams advance to the semi-finals and will be seeded 1 through 4 after the round robin games

Bantam - Top 4 teams overall advance to the semi-finals

Minor Midget - Top 2 teams in each group advance to the semi-finals

Midget - Top 4 teams overall advance to the semi-finals

In semi-finals and finals; top seeded team in round robin will be home.

12. Tie-Breaking Formula: Round robin point total ties will be broken as follows:
a) Record against each other (if only two teams tied and they played each other)
b) Most wins;
c) Highest goals for percentage: GF / (GF + GA);
d) Fewest Goals allowed
e) Flip of a coin.
13. Quarter/Semis/Finals: Quarter/Semi-final and final games for all MD/AE and HL divisions will have one 12-minute and two 15 minute stop-time period lengths with no curfew. Ties are not permitted.
Games with a 5 goal differential in the 3rd period will have the clock run and will not revert back to stop time regardless of the score—minor penalties will be 3 minutes in length. If a game is tied at the end of regulation time, there will be a 10-minute sudden victory overtime period (5 on 5). If a tie still exists following the overtime period, a shoot-out will decide the winner. A list of 5 shoot-out players must be submitted prior to the start of the game. One player from each team will shoot simultaneously. All 5 players from both teams will shoot during the shoot-out. The team with the most goals will be declared the winner. If still tied following the shoot-out, the same players in the same order will continue to shoot simultaneously until one team scores and one team misses. The team that scores will be declared the winner. (Example: home team player scores - visiting team player misses - home team is declared winner).

14. Time-outs: Each team will be allowed one 30-second timeout per game anytime during regulation or overtime play, but not during a shoot-out.
