North London Nationals 2019/2020 Minor Novice Season
Welcome to the 2019/2020 Minor Novice season. My name is Ryan Finnson and I will be the head coach of the Minor Novice MD team.

I am very excited for the opportunity to continue coaching within the North London Nationals organization.  For the last three seasons I have helped out with the IP program and watched the development and growth of so many players. I am looking to build on that success this season and will continue to grow the children’s passion for hockey in a fun and positive environment while focusing on skill development.

Hockey Canada introduced a new program last year in Novice hockey which included half ice games with 4v4 game play.  This season the program will continue half ice for the full season.

The Minor Novice division evaluation process will consist of 3 skates for all players registered (3hrs/skater).  The first skate is scheduled for Saturday September 14th and will be a knock the rust off the skate session, not an evaluation.  The official evaluations will start Sunday and will be used to assess each player. After the final evaluation the players selected to the MD team will be posted to the team website, the remaining players assigned to one of two house league teams.  More information regarding the house league teams and ice times will be posted to the North London website in the next couple weeks.  Please check the website calendar to make sure no changes have occurred.

Saturday        1:00pm – 2:00pm, Carling Arena (all skaters)

Sunday          6:00pm – 7:00pm, Carling Arena (last names A-Ma)
7:00pm – 8:00pm, Carling Arena (last names Mc-Z)

Wednesday    5:00pm – 6:00pm, Carling Arena (last names Mc-Z)
6:00pm – 7:00pm, Carling Arena (last names A-Ma)

Please visit the North London Nationals homepage, there you will find the Rowan's Law acknowledgement forms.  These forms will outline the concussion protocol and must be read and signed by both players and parents prior to stepping on the ice. Any participant who has failed to do so will not be allowed to skate until such time. Please act accordingly.

MD Team: This is a competitive hockey team, it is expected that all players/parents are committed to our games, practices, tournaments, events and off ice training sessions as the priority.

For all players selected to the MD team there will be a financial commitment beyond the cost of player registration. This is to cover the costs associated with tournaments and player development opportunities, etc.  The budget has yet to be completed or approved.  The MD team will look at options for fundraising to help reduce the rising costs of competitive hockey.

The MD team will compete in 3 tournaments over the course of our season, 2 home and 1 away, as well as the Alliance Championships in April.  They are as follows:

Nov. 16 - Nov. 17 Burlington Jr. Cougars Cup Kick-off Classic
Nov. 29 - Dec. 1        Dan Pulham Memorial Tournament (London)
Jan. 17 - Jan. 19      West London Hawks
Apr. 4 - Apr. 5  Alliance Championships

If you do not wish for your child to be evaluated for the MD team please let us know in advance of evaluations.

I am eager to get started and look forward to a great season of hockey.

Good luck to everyone, see you at the rink!

Coach Ryan
