The North London Nationals, team 11 completed the 2017 Oakridge House League Classic tournament with a 4-0 record finishing first in their division and winning the Championship game on Sunday in an all North London Nationals final.
I want to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate all of the players and their parents for a very successful weekend of hockey. After three round robin games we found ourselves in first place overall, earning a bye to the finals.
The players arrived at the Western Fair Sunday morning for a 7:15 warm-up and were focused and ready to play. We played a familiar and strong opponent in the North London Nationals 31 team.
The game was everything you would expect in a championship game. North 31 came out hungry for the win and had us on our heels through the first period. The kids held their ground and started to press offensively. The scoring went back and forth and was 2-2 into the third period. We scored the go-ahead goal in the third and as the clock ran down in the third, the North 31 team pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. We took a quick timeout to discuss our game plan and rest the players prior to the final 2 minutes.
There were some exciting moments, but our players were able to clear our zone and keep the play in the offensive zone. With under 5 seconds left in the game, we managed to find the net for the insurance goal.
Congratulations to the North London 11 team for their second tournament championship of the season. These young players worked hard in each and every game earning their spot in the finals and winning the championship game.
