Try Out Update
Parents, thank you for your patience throughout this process as I endeavoured to select the newest Nationals to our program.  Players, thank you for your efforts, your youthful comments that made me laugh, your smiles and your determination.  In the last week, I rediscovered the fun in the game of hockey and the grassroots of what makes this game great!

That being said, to pick the best team, I need another skating session to finalize the selections.  I have asked Fred Polci to run a power skating session tomorrow from 2:30-3:30pm at Carling B.

Fred Polci is a CFSA Certified Power Skating Instructor, a grade school teacher and owner of London Stars Hockey School in London.  I have used Fred's services with my teams for the past 5 years.  All in all, by the end of the session tomorrow, you will see a difference in the skating ability of your player and I will have determined who will play on this team in 2014-15.

Many of you have asked what we are looking for in a team.  There is a reason for our structuring the practices around skating drills, passing drills, scrimmage games and competition drills.  We are looking for three things:

1) Skill Level - Skating, shooting, passing.
2) Game Skills - Ability to compete for the puck, awareness of where the puck is going and determination to have it.
3) Potential - Some players are at a skating level that is unmatched by others, that being said, skating can be taught and develops over time as they discover how best to use their edges.  Level of compete is as important as skating.

To summarize, the players that will make this team will be great skaters, have a high level of compete or a combination of the two.  With these two elements combined, we can help the players meet their potential over time.

I will be having a quick parent meeting in one of the dressing rooms once the kids go on ice. See you at the rink.
